Ballet La Crosse to stage ‘Cinderella’

Ballet La Crosse will bring a fairy tale of love and magic to life during its production of “Cinderella.”

The ballet, choreographed by artistic director Kennet Oberly to the music of Sergei Prokofiev, will be at 7 p.m. Nov. 28 and 2 p.m. Nov. 29 at the Weber Center for the Performing Arts.

The dancers will tell “the story of love and love on many different levels,” according to associate artistic director Amanda Schams.

“Allow yourself to be swept away, and let magic and happiness find their way into your life,” Schams said.

Ballet La Crosse dancers prepare for Cinderella

Dancers with Ballet La Crosse are preparing for their 3rd season opener, featuring a classic fairytale.

Cinderella, a full-length, classic ballet choreographed by Ballet La Crosse artistic directors will feature about 60 local dancers ranging from ages 7 to 17 along with two adult dancers and four professionals.

The ballet is based on Cendrillon, penned by Charles Perrault in 1967, which provided the foundation for Disney’s animated version.

Antoinette Key, Administrative Director for Ballet La Crosse is also a parent of a dancer and said it requires a lot of time, hard work, and dedication.

SHS dancer gearing up for classical ballet performance

When Sparta High School freshman Macy-Kaye Sullivan’s school day ends, her day of education is far from over.

A couple of times per week, Macy-Kaye studies and practices ballet until nearly 10 p.m.

She studies ballet at Misty’s Dance Unlimited in Onalaska, where she is a level-six ballet dancer of a total of seven levels at the studio, and a level-three of three levels in pointe.

Macy-Kaye, daughter of Randy and Heidi Sullivan of Sparta, began dancing at age three, following in her older sister Molly’s footsteps.

Dancer does double duty for ‘Cinderella’

Katie Peterson will do more than dance the role of Cinderella’s fairy godmother in Ballet La Crosse’s upcoming holiday production. In true fairy godmother fashion, the 16-year-old from rural West Salem is putting her skills as a seamstress to work helping make Cinderella’s costume.
